Windigo




Windigo

A culture specific syndrome of Canadians involving delusions of being possessed by a cannibal-istic monster (windigo), attacks of agitated depression, oral sadistic fears and impulses.

Culture
Growth of cells, tissues or embryos in vitro on an artificial nutrient medium in the laboratory.

Syndrome
A grouping of signs and symptoms, based on their frequent co-occurrence, that may suggest a common underlying pathogenesis, course, familial pattern, or treatment selection.

Delusions
A condition in which the patient has lost touch with reality and experiences hallucinations and misperceptions.

Depression
A mental state of depressed mood characterized by feelings of sadness, despair and discouragement. Depression ranges from normal feelings of the blues through dysthymia to major depression. It in many ways resembles the grief and mourning that follow bereavement, there are often feelings of low self esteem, guilt and self reproach, withdrawal from interpersonal contact and physical symptoms such as eating and sleep disturbances.

Oral
Of or involving the mouth or mouth region or the surface on which the mouth is located.

Sadistic
The condition of being responsive or dependent on punishing or humiliating one's partner in order to obtain erotic arousal and facilitate orgasm. A person, especially a woman, may impersonate a sadist to oblige masochistic partners for commercial gain.

Whole-genome amplification (WGA)
A technique that allows production of enough DNA from a single cell to do multiple genetic analyses; involves nonspecific Polymerase chain reaction (PCR) amplification of an entire genome, providing templates for later PCR to produce more copies of the genome.

Word salad
A mixture of words and phrases that lack comprehensive meaning or logical coherence; commonly seen in schizophrenic states.

A vernacular term for urophilia.

Wet dream
A dream with erotosexual content that ends in sexual orgasm. It occurs with greatest frequency in pubertal and adolescent boys. In some instances, the content of the dream is lost or fails to exist, and the ejaculate is the sole sign of the occurrence. When recalled, the topical content of the erotic dream reveals the content of one's idiosyncratic lovemap.

Wolffian duct structures
The embryonic structures that develop into the internal reproductive anatomy of the male, attached to the testicles; named for Kaspar F. Wolff, German embryologist (1733-1794).

Womb
In female mammals, the organ in which the young live and grow before birth.
