Vitreomacular traction syndrome
Vitreomacular traction syndrome A traction-induced visual deficit in which partial posterior vitreous detachment is present in combination with persistent macular adherence. RELATED TERMS-------------------------------------- Posterior At or toward the back. Vitreous The transparent, solid, gelatinous material which fills the interior of the eye behind the lens. It allows the eye to maintain its shape. Detachment A behavior pattern characterized by general aloofness in interpersonal contact; may include intellectualization, denial, and superficiality. SIMILAR TERMS-------------------------------------- Vitrase Vitrase is a prescription or over-the-counter drug which is (or once was) approved in the United States and possibly in other countries. Active ingredient(s): hyaluronidase. Vitrasert Vitrasert is a prescription or over-the-counter drug which is (or once was) approved in the United States and possibly in other countries. Active ingredient(s): ganciclovir. Vitravene preservative free Vitravene preservative free is a prescription or over-the-counter drug which is (or once was) approved in the United States and possibly in other countries. Active ingredient(s): fomivirsen sodium. Vitrectomy Removing the gel from the center of the eyeball because it has blood and scar tissue in it that blocks sight. An eye surgeon replaces the clouded gel with a clear fluid. Vitreous The transparent, solid, gelatinous material which fills the interior of the eye behind the lens. It allows the eye to maintain its shape. Vitreous humor The clear gelatinous substance that fills the eyeball between the retina and the lens. Vitreous Humor The clear jelly (gel) that fills the center of the eye. PREVIOUS AND NEXT TERMS-------------------------------------- Ventral pathway One of two theorized systems of visual information processing. Information though to progress toward the temporal cortex V1-> V2 -> V4 -> IT. Functions for analysis of object qualities such as pattern shapes, size and colors. Vieth-Muller circle When the foveal centers are pointed at an object, the range for which images of all other objects fall on corresponding points of zero horizontal disparity. This differs from the perceived range of zero disparity, the Horopter. Viewer centered coordinate system The projection of an objects shape on the retina depends on the vantage point of the viewer. Visual angle A measurement of the area of the retina in degrees subtended by a stimulus. Roughly speaking the width of one's thumb at arm's length is approximately 2 degrees. Visual phosphene The visual perception resulting from non-photopic stimulation such as electrical stimulation of the cortex or pressing on the eyeball. Brinkdley & Lewin 1968) and Bak et al (1990) have shown that stimulation of the cortex produces visual pherceptions. Vitreomacular traction syndrome V5a Seems to be involved in visually tracking moving target. Projects along with Middle Temporal Area (MT) to the dorsolateral pontine nuclei in the brain stem. V5 Characterized by strong motion-directionally sensitive neurons with large receptive fields organized into columns. Some neurons respond to the whole rather than the component motion of moving plaid patterns. Implicated in the analysis of movement, and stereoscopic depth. Receives input from layer 4B in V1 and thick stripes in V2. Projects to Medial Superior Temporal Area (MST). Verruca A wart. Verrucous Rough; wart-like. Viscous Thick, coagulated; sticky or gummy.
