Thyroid Stimulating Hormone (TSH)
A hormone secreted by the anterior pituitary gland, that controls the production and release of the thyroid hormones (T4 and T3). Measurement of the TSH level in the bloodstream is commonly done as a screening tool for hypothyroidism and hyperthyroidism, and as an assessment of the adequacy of therapy in people who are taking thyroid hormone pills as therapy. Typically, high values of TSH are associated with hypothyroidism, and absence of TSH is associated with hyperthyroidism.

Thyroid-Releasing Hormone (TRH)
The hormone released from the hypothalamus. It instructs the pituitary to release TSH.

Thyroid-Stimulating Hormone (TSH)
The hormone released from the pituitary that causes the thyroid gland to produce T4 hormone. TSH uses the second messenger cyclic AMP to initiate the synthesis of T4.

Trophoblast
A granular protoplasmic body; a plastid, formed from , eventually surrounds the entire embryo; insert themselves between uterine epithelial cells, then spread along the epithelial surface of the basal lamina that underlies the endometrial epithelium to form a trophoplate.

Telophase
The final stage of mitosis in which the chromosomes migrate to opposite poles, a new nuclear envelope forms, and the chromosomes uncoil. The last phase of nuclear division in eukaryotes when the segregated chromosomes uncoil and begin to reform nuclei. This is immediately followed (in most cases) by cytokinesis.

Testis
(plural testes). A male's testes are located in a pouch that hangs suspended outside his body. The testes produce testosterone and sperm.

Thyroxin (T4)
A hormone secreted by the thyroid gland which regulates metabolism.

Triiodothyronine (T3)
A hormone secreted by the thyroid gland which regulates metabolism; exerts the same biological effects as thyroxine, but is generally more potent and the onset of its effect is more rapid.

Type 1 Diabetes
A condition in which the body's immune system destroys the cells in the pancreas that produce insulin. Insulin allows glucose to enter the cells of the body to provide energy. Persons with type 1 diabetes must take daily insulin injections.

Tetracycline
Tetracycline is an antibiotic produced by the streptomyces bacterium, indicated for use against many bacterial infections.

Trimethoprim
Trimethoprim is a bacteriostatic antibiotic mainly used in the prophylaxis and treatment of urinary tract infections (cystitis). It belongs to the class of chemotherapeutic agents known as dihydrofolate reductase inhibitors.
