Thrombocytopenia

Decrease in blood platelets.

Blood
The life-maintaining fluid which is made up of plasma, red blood cells (erythrocytes), white blood cells (leukocytes), and platelets; blood circulates through the body's heart, arteries, veins, and capillaries; it carries away waste matter and carbon dioxide, and brings nourishment, electrolytes, hormones, vitamins, antibodies, heat, and oxygen to the tissues.

Cells found in the blood.

Also known as platelets because of their small plate-like appearance. Their chief function is to initiate blood clotting when injury occurs.

A clot of material that breaks free from a primary site, is transported in the bloodstream and becomes lodged and adhered at a secondary site.

Temporal hemiretina
That portion of the retina that lies lateral to the fovea.

Tetrachromatic color vision
Color vision based on four cone photoreceptor pigments in the retina. The fourth cone type is sensitive to U.V. light and seen in goldfish.

The basic textural elements of pre-attentive vision such as elongated blobs or line segments and their terminators which are important for segregation of textures.

Transducin
A regulatory g-protein in photoreceptors which stimulates phosphodiesterase molecules and acts as an amplifier of the incoming light signal.

Puncture of the pleural cavity.

Thromboembolus
A clot of material that breaks free from a primary site, is transported in the bloodstream and becomes lodged and adhered at a secondary site.

Tactile hallucination
A hallucination involving the perception of being touched or of something being under one's skin. The most common tactile hallucinations are the sensation of electric shocks and formication (the sensation of something creeping or crawling on or under the skin).

Tangentiality
Replying to a question in an oblique or irrelevant way. Compare with circumstantiality.

Temperament
Constitutional predisposition to react in a particular way to stimuli.

Terminal insomnia
Awakening before one's usual waking time and being unable to return to sleep.
