Th.D.Doctor of Theology. RELATED TERMS-------------------------------------- Doctor 1. One whose occupation is to treat diseases, particularly a physician, dentist, or veterinarian with an appropriate license. 2. A teacher (particularly at a college or university), a scholar, or one who holds a postgraduate degree (especially a Ph.D. degree). 3. A shaman. SIMILAR TERMS-------------------------------------- PREVIOUS AND NEXT TERMS-------------------------------------- Type 1 error (statistics) Error made when a correct null hypothesis is rejected, when a treatment effect is seen which is not true. Type 2 error (statistics) Error made when an incorrect null hypothesis is not rejected, when a treatment effect is in fact present, but not observed, perhaps because of too few events. Tao In a word, everything; the experience of the "universal Way" ("essential reality"). TCM Traditional Chinese Medicine. Thalassotherapy The treatment of illness by sea air and sea water. It encompasses sea bathing, ocean voyaging, and sojourning at seaside resorts. Th.D. Tofu (bean curd) A kind of soy cheese. It is nondairy and high in protein. Team Management Describes a diabetes treatment approach in which medical care is provided by a physician, diabetes nurse educator, dietitian, and behavioral scientist working together with the patient. Thiazolidinediones One of several different classes of pills that lower the level of glucose in the blood. Used in Type 2 diabetes. There are several thiazolidinedione pills available. This class of medications is also called "glitazones." Thyroid Stimulating Hormone (TSH) A hormone secreted by the anterior pituitary gland, that controls the production and release of the thyroid hormones (T4 and T3). Measurement of the TSH level in the bloodstream is commonly done as a screening tool for hypothyroidism and hyperthyroidism, and as an assessment of the adequacy of therapy in people who are taking thyroid hormone pills as therapy. Typically, high values of TSH are associated with hypothyroidism, and absence of TSH is associated with hyperthyroidism. Tolazamide A pill taken to lower the level of glucose (sugar) in the blood.
