Tendon
Tendon Band of fibrous tissue by which muscle is attached to bone. RELATED TERMS-------------------------------------- Tissue Biological tissue is a group of cells that perform a similar function.The study of tissues is known as histology, or, in connection with disease, histopathology.The classical tools for studying the tissues are the wax block, the tissue stain, and the optical microscope, though developments in electron microscopy, immunofluorescence, and frozen sections have all added to the sum of knowledge in the last couple of decades. Muscle Tissue made up of bundles of long, slender cells that contract when stimulated. Bone Bone refers either to a hardened connective tissue or to one of the individual structures, or organs, into which it is formed, found in many animals. Bones support body structures, protect internal organs, and (in conjunction with muscles) facilitate movement; are also involved with cell formation, calcium metabolism, and mineral storage. The bones of an animal are, collectively, known as the skeleton. SIMILAR TERMS-------------------------------------- Tendinitis An inflammation in a tendon or the tendon covering. Tendonitis Inflammation of tendon. Takayasu's arteritis A form of giant cell arteritis which afflicts mainly younger females. Predominantly affects aortic arch vessels. (Pulseless disease). Temporal arteritis A vasculitic disorder which presents with head pain and scalp tenderness and a high ESR. Sudden loss of vision may occur due to retinal artery occlusion. Part of the polymyalgia rheumatica disease spectrum. Also known as cranial or giant cell arteritis. Tendon Tendonitis Inflammation of tendon. (Tendinitis) Tennis elbow Lateral humeral epicondylitis. (An enthesitis). Tinel's sign Paraesthesiae (mainly in the middle finger) experienced on percussion over the flexor retinaculum at the wrist. Suggests carpal tunnel syndrome. Tophus Subcutaneous nodule composed of urate. Seen in chronic gout. Torticollis Abnormal posture of the head due to spasm of the sternocleidomastoid muscle.
