RELATED TERMS
--------------------------------------

Ganglia
Clusters of cell bodies of neurons outside of the central nervous system.

Cluster
In epidemiology, an aggregation of cases of a disease or another health-related condition, such as a cancer or birth defect, closely grouped in time and place. The number of cases in the cluster may or may not exceed the expected number. This is determined by cluster analysis, a set of statistical methods used to analyze clusters.

Nerve
Tissue that conveys sensation, temperature, position information to the brain.

Nucleus
Plural: nuclei. The compartment of a cell that contains the chromosomes.

Balance
A biological system that enables us to know where our bodies are in the environment and to maintain a desired position. Normal balance depends on information from the inner ear, other senses (such as sight and touch) and muscle movement.

Striatum
Part of the basal ganglia, it is a large cluster of nerve cells, consisting of the caudate nucleus and the putamen, that controls movement, balance, and walking; the neurons of the striatum require dopamine to function.

Dopamine
A neurotransmitter that works in an axis with serotonin.
