Spondylitis
SpondylitisInflammation of the vertebrae. RELATED TERMS-------------------------------------- Inflammation A reaction to an injury to the body - by infection, chemicals or physical agents. The symptoms can be - depending on the location of the injury- redness, swelling, heat and pain. The purpose of the inflammation is to dilute and destroy the agent causing the inflammation. To do this, the immune system starts a cascade of actions that causes active cells to gather at the affected location. It is these cells and fluids that cause the redness, swelling, heat and pain. Vertebrae The bones that make up the spine. SIMILAR TERMS-------------------------------------- Spondarthritis Spondylarthopathy. A seronegative arthropathy related to ankylosing spondylitis and often also to the possession of HLA B27. Spondylarthritis Defect in pars interarticularis of vertebra. Spondylolisthesis Malalignment of vertebrae due to spondylolysis or degenerative change which allows one vertebra to slip forward on top of another. Spondylosis A degenerative process of the cervical spine that causes narrowing of the spinal canal and neural foramina, and produces compression of the spinal cord and nerve roots. Spontaneous abortion occurs in at least 15-20% of all recognized pregnancies and usually takes place before the 13th week of pregnancy. A spontaneous abortion is as opposed to an induced abortion.
