Scleroma
Scleroma A hardened patch of skin or mucous membrane.
RELATED TERMS-------------------------------------- Skin Skin is an organ of the integumentary system; which is composed of a layer of tissues that protect underlying muscles and organs. Skin is used for insulation, vitamin D production, sensation, and excretion (through sweat). Mucous Adj. Relating to or resembling mucus. SIMILAR TERMS-------------------------------------- Sclera The sclera is the white part of the eye. The clear cornea is the front extension of the sclera. Scleritis Inflammation of the sclera, causing pain, redness and possible loss of vision. Can be a complication of rheumatoid arthritis. Scleroderma A relatively rare form of arthritis in which the body produces too much collagen. Excess collagen may be deposited in the skin, joints, and other body organs. Scleroderma is a chronic disorder marked by hardening and thickening of the skin. Sclerosis Hardening. Sclerosol Sclerosol is a prescription or over-the-counter drug which is (or once was) approved in the United States and possibly in other countries. Active ingredient(s): talc. Sclerotherapy A method of stopping upper GI bleeding. A needle is inserted through an endoscope to bring hardening agents to the place that is bleeding. PREVIOUS AND NEXT TERMS-------------------------------------- Superior temporal polysensory area (STP) Area of monkey cortex. Virtually all cells respond to visual stimuli but some also activated by somatosensory and auditory input. Large receptive fields covering most of the visual field with no visuotopic order. Show radial or opponent direction selectivity. Some cells have fields responding to motion either towards the area centralis or away from it. Others show selective responses for object moving in depth, producing either looming or contracting pattern of motion in the field. Seem to be sensitive to information about peripheral optic flow. Spermatogenesis Formation of sperm. Splenomegaly Enlargement of the spleen. Sessile polyp A polyp with a broad base (sessile). Saponification The hydrolysis of a fat by alkali with the formation of a soap and glycerol. Scleroma Serosa Any serous membrane. Serpiginous Having a wavy border.
