Reciprocation
Reciprocation The mutual process of adaptation, one to the other, as when the behavior of a person of one sex adapts itself to the behavior of the other. RELATED TERMS-------------------------------------- Adaptation A change in the sensitivity to light of a photoreceptor or the visual system as a whole to match the average light intensity present. SIMILAR TERMS-------------------------------------- Recipient A patient who receives an organ, tissue or blood from another person. Reciprocal inhibition In behavior therapy, the hypothesis that if anxiety-provoking stimuli occur simultaneously with the inhibition of anxiety (e.g., relaxation), the bond between those stimuli and the anxiety will be weakened. PREVIOUS AND NEXT TERMS-------------------------------------- Rhinitis An inflammation of the mucous membrane that lines the nose, often due to allergy to pollen, dust or other airborne substances, which causes sneezing, itching, a runny nose and nasal congestion. RICE treatment Rest, ice, compression, and elevation. Rotavirus The most common cause of infectious diarrhea in the United States, especially in children under age 2. Rupture A break or tear in any organ or soft tissue. Rapism The condition in which a person is dependent on the terrified resistance of a nonconsenting stranger, under conditions of unexpected assault and threats of further violence, in order to obtain erotic arousal and facilitate and achieve orgasm. The rape may be replayed in fantasy while masturbating or copulating. True rape is not the same as the coercive imposition of coitus on an acquaintance or spouse. Reciprocation Reductionism The theoretically incorrect practice of reducing causality that is complex and multivariate to a single or univariate cause. Renifleurism Sexuoerotic stimulation from the odor of urine. Resolution phase The fourth of four sexual phases delineated by Masters and Johnson. Reversible hyposomatotropic dwarfism Abuse-dwarfism. They release other hormones, especially from the nearby pituitary gland. We thank you for using the Medical Glossary to search for Reciprocation.
