Pyloroplasty
An operation to widen the opening between the stomach and the small intestine to allow contents to pass more freely from the stomach.

Pylorus
The opening from the stomach into the top of the small intestine (duodenum).

Paranasal sinuses
Air cavities within the facial bones, lined by mucous membranes similar to those in other parts of the airways.

Postural tremor
A tremor of a limb that increases when the limb is stretched.

Peak Expiratory Flow (PEF)
A measurement of lung function, established by the patient's blowing into a special device. The higher the number recorded, the better the lung function. PEF is dependent on the severity of the disease, gender, age and height. A lower reading than expected may be caused by an allergy.

Provocation test
Also called a challenge test. A test performed on eyes, nose or lungs and used to diagnose an allergy or monitor the effect of e.g. specific allergy vaccination. The allergen is introduced in increasing doses to the organ to see if the person reacts and, if so, at what level of exposure.

Stem cells that include in their progeny all cell types that can be found in a postimplantation embryo, fetus, or developed organism.

Precursor cells
Or progenitor cells - In fetal or adult tissues, these are partially differentiated cells that divide and give rise to differentiated cells.

Preimplantation embryo
The very early, free-floating embryo, from the time the egg is fertilized (zygote) until the beginning of implantation (in humans, a period of about 6 days). Also includes embryos resulting from nuclear transfer, in all the developmental stages through the blastocyst stage.
