Paramedic
Paramedics, are Advanced Cardiac Life Support Personnel with training in early and advanced triage, BCLS, ACLS, invasive procedures, drug therapy, advanced field diagnostics, patient packaging/transport and advanced first aid. Paramedics are traditionally found in an ambulance. Although Paramedics are technically EMT's (EMT-P versus EMT-B) most people refer to them separately.

Paranasal sinuses
Air cavities within the facial bones, lined by mucous membranes similar to those in other parts of the airways.

Paranoia
A mental disorder characterized by a belief that others are out to get you.

Paranoid
Characterized by thinking that is delusional and, maybe, hallucinatory. It is incorrectly used as a synonym for suspicious.

Paranoid ideation
Ideation, of less than delusional proportions, involving suspiciousness or the belief that one is being harassed, persecuted, or unfairly treated.

Paraphilia
A condition occurring in men and women of being compulsively responsive to and obligatively dependent upon an unusual and personally or socially unacceptable stimulus, perceived or in the imagery of fantasy, for optimal initiation and maintenance of erotosexual arousal and the facilitation or attainment of orgasm. Paraphilic imagery may be replayed in fantasy during solo masturbation or intercourse with a partner. In legal terminology, a paraphilia is a perversion or deviancy; and in the vernacular it is kinky or bizarre sex.

Paraphiliac
A person who manifests a paraphilia. Either of the two endings, -iac and -ile, may be used for each of the philias; a person with a paraphilia.

Paraphilic
Impersonating an older person and being treated as one by a partner - one of the stigmatic/eligibilic paraphilias.

Paraplatin
Paraplatin is a prescription or over-the-counter drug which is (or once was) approved in the United States and possibly in other countries. Active ingredient(s): carboplatin.

Paraplegia
Paraplegiai nvolves a loss of sensation and movement in the legs and in part or all of the trunk. This varies according to the level of the injury. Generally, the lower the injury, the less the loss of movement and sensation. Paraplegia usually results from an injury to the spinal cord in the mid and lower back.

Parasal is a prescription or over-the-counter drug which is (or once was) approved in the United States and possibly in other countries. Active ingredient(s): aminosalicylic acid.

Parasal sodium is a prescription or over-the-counter drug which is (or once was) approved in the United States and possibly in other countries. Active ingredient(s): aminosalicylate sodium.

Parasite
An organism that lives on or in the tissues of another organism and draws its nourishment from the host.

Parasitemia
The presence of parasites in the circulating blood; used especially with reference to malarial and other protozoan forms, and microfilariae.

Parasomnia
Abnormal behavior or physiological events occurring during sleep or sleep-wake transitions.

Paraspadias
A developmental abnormality in which the urethra opens along one side of the penis.

Parasthesia
A partial loss of sensation; may be temporary or permanent.

Parasympathetic nervous system
Pertaining to that part of the autonomic nervous system which usually prepares the organism to deal more effectively with a situation of peace, rest, and recovery, the functions of which contrast with or reciprocate those of the sympathetic system Paradoxically, the parasympathetic system is responsible for the physiological phenomenon of sexual arousal, but not sexual orgasm and/or ejaculation.

Parathar
Parathar is a prescription or over-the-counter drug which is (or once was) approved in the United States and possibly in other countries. Active ingredient(s): teriparatide acetate.

Parathyroid gland
Parathyroid gland refers to one of four pea-sized glands found on the thyroid.

Parathyroid glands
Located in front of the neck, below the larynx (voice box). The parathyroid glands play a role in the regulation of the body's calcium balance.

Paratope
An antibody combining site that is complementary to an epitope.

Paraurethral glands
In females, a zone of glandular tissue located around the canal of the urethra that, in some cases, releases a fluid which escapes from the urethral opening at the time of orgasm. The male counterpart is the prostate gland. These glands, and their location, are otherwise described as the G-Spot, Gräfenberg spot, zone or area.

Beside the uterus.
