Impaction
Impaction Partial or completely unexposed tooth that is wedged against another tooth, bone, or soft tissue, precluding the eruption process RELATED TERMS-------------------------------------- Bone Bone refers either to a hardened connective tissue or to one of the individual structures, or organs, into which it is formed, found in many animals. Bones support body structures, protect internal organs, and (in conjunction with muscles) facilitate movement; are also involved with cell formation, calcium metabolism, and mineral storage. The bones of an animal are, collectively, known as the skeleton. Tissue Biological tissue is a group of cells that perform a similar function.The study of tissues is known as histology, or, in connection with disease, histopathology.The classical tools for studying the tissues are the wax block, the tissue stain, and the optical microscope, though developments in electron microscopy, immunofluorescence, and frozen sections have all added to the sum of knowledge in the last couple of decades. Eruption Process of teeth protruding through the gums SIMILAR TERMS-------------------------------------- Impaired Glucose Tolerance (IGT) Blood glucose (sugar) levels higher than normal but not high enough to be called diabetes. People with IGT may or may not develop diabetes. Other names (no longer used) for IGT are "borderline," "subclinical," "chemical," or "latent" diabetes. Impairment A defect in organ function or whole body system, which may be temporary or permanent (eg. hemiplegia). Immunotherapy Stimulating the body's natural defense system to attack and destroy cancers. Treating the tumor site with radiation immediately following surgery to remove the tumor. Incontinence Involuntary voiding of the bladder or bowel. Impaction Implant (dentristy) Artificial device replacing tooth root; may anchor an artificial tooth, bridge, or denture. Impression Mold made of the teeth and soft tissues. Incision and drainage Surgical incision of an abscess to drain suppuration (pus). Incisors Four upper and four lower front teeth, excluding the cuspids (canine teeth). Infiltration Local anesthetic procedure effective for upper teeth and soft tissue; placement of anesthetic under the gum, allowing it to seep into bone.
