RELATED TERMS-------------------------------------- Granuloma A mass of red, irritated tissue in the GI tract found in Crohn's disease. Disease Illness or sickness often characterized by typical patient problems (symptoms) and physical findings (signs). Disruption sequence: The events that occur when a fetus that is developing normally is subjected to a destructive agent such as the rubella (German measles) virus. SIMILAR TERMS-------------------------------------- Histafed Histafed is a prescription or over-the-counter drug which is (or once was) approved in the United States and possibly in other countries. Histamine phosphate Histamine phosphate is a prescription or over-the-counter drug which is (or once was) approved in the United States and possibly in other countries. Active ingredient(s): histamine phosphate. Histiocyte A large, phagocytic cell of the reticuloendothelial system; a macrophage. These antigens, in turn, are collectively referred to as histocompatibility antigens. Histology The study of the structure and behavior of cells and body tissues, usually involving microscopic examination of tissue slices. Histoplasmose Histoplasmose refers to a disease caused by Histoplasma Capsulatum . Histoplasmosis A fungal disease caused by inhaling the spores of Histoplasma capsulatum. PREVIOUS AND NEXT TERMS-------------------------------------- HSC disease Hand-Schuller-Christian disease. A form of Histiocytosis-X. Heat shock proteins Produced in response to physiological stress. Of interest in inflammatory arthritis because antigenic. Heberden's nodes Bony swellings on distal interphalangeal joints (at the ends of the fingers) in osteoarthritis. Hemiarthroplasty Partial joint replacement - in the knee for example. Henoch-Schoenlein purpura Anaphylactoid purpura. A form of allergic vasculitis. The features are arthritis, rash, gastrointestinal involvement and nephritis. Commoner in children. Histiocytosis-X HLA antigens Human Leukocyte Antigens. (Histocompatibility antigens.) Detected by blood testing. An individual inherits a combination of HLA antigens from his or her parents. They are related to the working of the immune system. For instance, organ donors and recipients must have compatible HLA antigens, otherwise the transplanted organ is recognised as 'foreign'. Certain HLA antigens confer susceptibility to certain diseases and this explains the heritability of some diseases. HLA B27 The histocompatibility antigen which is strongly associated with ankylosing spondylitis and other seronegative spondylarthritides. It occurs in 10% of the population and is detected using a blood test. HLA DR4 HLA antigen associated with rheumatoid arthritis. The association is not as strong as in the case of HLA B27 and ankylosing spondylitis. Hoffa's disease Knee fad-pad syndrome. Pain and swelling underneath the patellar tendon. Hoffman's sign Brisk thumb flexion on flicking the distal phalanx of the index finger into extension. We thank you for using the Medical Glossary to search for Histiocytosis-X.
