Hindmilk




Hindmilk

Breast milk, rich in fat, produced toward the end of a feeding. A baby must nurse for a while (there is no set time - it varies with the individual) to get the hindmilk.

Breast
The breast refers to the front of the chest or, more specifically, to the mammary gland. The mammary gland is a milk producing gland. It is composed largely of fat. Within the mammary gland is a complex network of branching ducts. These ducts exit from sac-like structures called lobules, which can produce milk in females. The ducts exit the breast at the nipple.

Fat
A major energy source for animals and humans. Fat contains nine calories per gram.

Hindmilk

Hemorrhoid

Babies with a greater likelihood of developing an illness or dyingwithin the first few months of life. High-risk babies include those ofmothers infected with HIV or who have a drug or alcohol dependency.

High-risk pregnancy
A pregnancy with a higher than normal risk of developing complications. Such pregnancies include those with multiple fetuses or Rh incompatibility, and when the mother has had problems with miscarriage, pre-term labor, or placenta previa in earlier pregnancies.

Hindmilk

Home monitor
A device used to monitor a baby's breathing or heartbeat to help preventsudden infant death syndrome (SIDS).

Hot line
A phone number providing direct access to a company or agency for information, advice, and referrals.

Human growth hormone
The hormone that regulates growth.

Hydrocephalus
A relatively rare condition caused by swelling of the fluid-filled cavities in the brain (called ventricles), hydrocephalus or "water on the brain" is sometimes the first sign of spina bifida or can be caused by a tumor or surgery to close an open spinal column.

Hymen
A thin membrane that covers the opening of the vagina.
