Distention




Distention

Bloating or swelling of the abdomen.

Bloating
Fullness or swelling in the abdomen that often occurs after meals.

A location farther from a point of reference. For example, the foot is distal to the knee, relative to the center of the body.

Double rows of eyelashes. The extra eyelashes grow from glands called the Meibomian glands and may protrude into the cornea, producing severe corneal abrasions.

Distractibility
The inability to maintain attention, that is, the shifting from one area or topic to another with minimal provocation, or attention being drawn too frequently to unimportant or irrelevant external stimuli.

Procedure in which the physician inserts a gloved finger into the rectum to examine the rectum and the prostate gland for signs of cancer.

Plural form of diverticulum.

Diverticulitis
A condition that occurs when small pouches in the colon (diverticula) become infected or irritated. Also called left-sided appendicitis.

Diverticulosis
A condition that occurs when small pouches (diverticula) push outward through weak spots in the colon.

Diverticulum
A small pouch in the colon. These pouches are not painful or harmful unless they become infected or irritated.
