DiagnoseTo identify a disease. RELATED TERMS-------------------------------------- Disease Illness or sickness often characterized by typical patient problems (symptoms) and physical findings (signs). Disruption sequence: The events that occur when a fetus that is developing normally is subjected to a destructive agent such as the rubella (German measles) virus. SIMILAR TERMS-------------------------------------- Diagnosis The determination of the presence of a specific disease or infection, usually accomplished by evaluating clinical symptoms and laboratory tests. Diagnostic Pertaining to a diagnosis; usually refers to a characteristic or criteria which is critical for a specific diagnosis. Diagnostic mammogram An X-ray of the breast done to evaluate: Abnormalities seen or suspected on a prior screening mammogram; Subjective or objectives abnormalities in the breast such as a lump, pain, thickening, nipple discharge or a inexplicable change in breast size or shape; Breasts for which it is difficult to obtain a clear X-ray by a screening mammogram because of special circumstances such as breast implants. PREVIOUS AND NEXT TERMS-------------------------------------- Desensitization Reducing or eliminating sensitivity to a particular substance. Desquamation The shedding of cells from the surface of the skin or mucous membranes. Devascularization Interruption of blood circulation to part of the body. Diagnose Dialysis A treatment to remove certain molecules from the blood, particularly in people with kidney failure. Diaphoresis Excessive sweating. Diastole The relaxation phase of the heartbeat. Digit A finger or toe. Discoid lupus erythematosus A round, red, scaling rash on the nose, forehead, cheeks, scalp or other areas of the body. It may be associated with systemic lupus erythematosus.
