Cramp
CrampA painful muscle spasm. RELATED TERMS-------------------------------------- Muscle Tissue made up of bundles of long, slender cells that contract when stimulated. Spasm A condition in which a muscle or group of muscles involuntarily contract. SIMILAR TERMS-------------------------------------- Cramping leg pain An aching, crampy, tired, and sometimes burning pain in the legs that comes and goes -- it typically occurs with walking and goes away with rest -- due to poor circulation of blood in the arteries of the legs. Known medically as intermittent claudication. Cramps, heat Painful muscle spasms in the abdomen, arms, or legs following strenuous activity. The skin is usually moist and cool and the pulse is normal or slightly raised. Body temperature is mostly normal. Heat cramps often are caused by a lack of salt in the body, but salt replacement should not be considered without advice from a physician. PREVIOUS AND NEXT TERMS-------------------------------------- Corn A hardened area of skin on the foot caused by persistent friction or pressure. Corticosteroid hormones Hormones produced by the adrenal glands. Coryza Runny nose. Costochondritis Inflammation of the cartilage-containing joints where the ribs join the breastbone (sternum). Coxsackievirus A virus that can cause inflammation of the heart, brain or eye, or hand-foot-and-mouth disease. Cramp Craniotomy A surgical opening of the skull. Cranium The skull, or bony structure of the head, that protects the brain. Creatinine A substance formed from the making of creatine, an important nitrogen compound made in the body. Common in blood, urine and muscle tissue. CT Computed tomographic scan. Culdocentesis A procedure to remove pus or blood from the abdomen through the vagina.
