Chancroid
ChancroidA sexually transmitted disease that causes soft, painful open sores in the genital area. Not syphilis. Characterized by swelling of the sebaceous glands, resulting in pimples on the face, back and chest. RELATED TERMS-------------------------------------- Disease Illness or sickness often characterized by typical patient problems (symptoms) and physical findings (signs). Disruption sequence: The events that occur when a fetus that is developing normally is subjected to a destructive agent such as the rubella (German measles) virus. Genital Having to do with the sex organs. Syphilis A sexually transmitted disease caused by the spirochete Treponema pallidum. Chest The area of the body located between the neck and the abdomen. The chest contains the lungs, the heart and part of the aorta. The walls of the chest are supported by the dorsal vertebrae, the ribs, and the sternum. SIMILAR TERMS-------------------------------------- Chancre The painless ulcer of primary syphilis that appears on the genitals. Chandipura virus A virus that causes fever, symptoms similar to those of flu, and acute encephalitis (inflammation of the brain). Change, single base A change in which a single base in the DNA differs from the usual base at that position. These single base changes are also called SNPs or "snips." Channelopathy A disease involving dysfunction of an ion channel. Channelopathies are known that involve the ion channels for potassium, sodium, chloride and calcium. There are also channelopathies involving the acetylcholine receptor, the glycine receptor, and other receptors. Each channelopathy can play a role in a number of different diseases. For example, the calcium channelopathies include familial hemiplegic migraine, malignant hyperthermia (a rare but often fatal genetic condition during anesthesia), episodic ataxia type 2, spinocerebellar ataxia type 6, hypokalemic periodic paralysis type I, central core disease (a cause of the floppy baby syndrome), congenital night blindness and stationary night blindness. Chancroid Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease Progressive, generally painless weakness of the legs, along with foot deformity. Charley horse Painful stiffness from muscular strain in an arm or leg. Cheilosis A condition in which cracks or sores occur at the corners of the mouth. Chickenpox A viral disease that usually begins with fever and cough, followed by a rash that progresses from red bumps to blisters to scabs. A vaccine is available to prevent this disease.
