BPH

BPHBenign prostatic hyperplasia which is also known as benign prostatic hypertrophy. Nonmalignant enlargement of the prostate gland.

Hyperplasia
An increase in the number of cells in a tissue or organ, usually as a physiologic response to a stimulus.
Hypertrophy
Over-development in size of an organ or of its constituent cells.
Prostate
A male sex gland that produces a thick fluid which forms part of semen.
Gland
An organ that releases a chemical. Endocrine glands are ductless and secrete hormones directly into the bloodstream. Exocrine glands secrete externally, either through a tube or duct.

BP1 is overexpressed in a large proportion of cases of acute myeloid leukemia (AML) and breast cancer.

Brace, foot-drop

One of the two main types of braces used to treat the lateral curve of the spine in scoliosis. This brace can be worn to correct any curve in the spine.
Brachial artery
The artery that runs from the shoulder down to the elbow.
