Apical
The adjective for apex, the tip of a pyramidal or rounded structure, like the lung or the heart. For example, an apical lung tumor is a tumor located at the top of the lung.

Apiphobia
Fear of bees. A phobia is an unreasonable sort of fear that can cause avoidance and panic. Phobias are a relatively common type of anxiety disorder. Phobias can be treated with cognitive behavioral therapy using exposure and fear reduction techniques. In many cases, anti-anxiety or anti-depressant medication proves helpful, especially during the early stages of therapy.

APL
"Abbreviation for acute promyelocytic leukemia, a malignancy of the bone marrow in which there is a deficiency of mature blood cells in the myeloid line of cells and an excess of immature cells called promyelocytes. APL is due to a translocation (an exchange of chromosome material) between chromosomes 15 and 17 which is symbolized t(15;17). This translocation is not a mere marker of APL. It is the cause of APL."

Aplasia of the breast
A rare condition wherein the normal growth of the breast or nipple never takes place. They are congenitally absent. There is no sign whatsoever of the breast tissue, areola or nipple. There is nothing there.

APLS (antiphospholipid antibody syndrome)
An immune disorder characterized by the presence of abnormal antibodies in the blood associated with abnormal blood clotting, migraine headaches, recurrent pregnancy losses (repeat spontaneous abortions), and low blood platelet counts (thrombocytopenia). The abnormal antibodies are directed against phospholipids, fats that contains phosphorous.

ApoA-I Milano
"A variant of apolipoprotein A-I identified in about 40 inhabitants of Limone sul Garde, a small town in rural North Italy, who had extraordinarily low HDL levels, levels so low that they were off the scale. Because HDL is the ""good"" cholesterol, it was expected that these people would have very high rates of heart disease. Instead, they seemed to be protected from heart disease and to enjoy longer lives than usual. The infusion of recombinant ApoA-I Milano-phospholipid complexes reportedly produces rapid regression of coronary artery atherosclerosis."
