ACD
ACD Angiokeratoma corporis diffusum. Fabry's disease. X-linked recessive inheritance. Caused by accumulation of triglycosylceramide in blood vessels and autonomic nervous system. RELATED TERMS-------------------------------------- Disease Illness or sickness often characterized by typical patient problems (symptoms) and physical findings (signs). Disruption sequence: The events that occur when a fetus that is developing normally is subjected to a destructive agent such as the rubella (German measles) virus. Blood The life-maintaining fluid which is made up of plasma, red blood cells (erythrocytes), white blood cells (leukocytes), and platelets; blood circulates through the body's heart, arteries, veins, and capillaries; it carries away waste matter and carbon dioxide, and brings nourishment, electrolytes, hormones, vitamins, antibodies, heat, and oxygen to the tissues. Algodystrophy A painful disorder in which there is evidence of overactivity of the sympathetic nervous system with trophic changes in skin. Alkaptonuria Due to deficiency of homogentisic acid oxidase with features of ochronosis - pigmentation of articular cartilage, early osteoarthritis and calcification of intervertebral discs. Urine turns dark on standing. Amyloid A proteinaceous fibrillar material deposited at extracellular sites in various tissues and organs. The pattern of deposition varies according to whether it is the Primary or Secondary (to a chronic inflammatory disease) form. ANCA Anti-Neutrophil Cytoplasmic Antibody. Found as cANCA or pANCA. The former is found in Wegener's granulomatosis whereas the latter is more non-specific. ACD Ankylosing hyperostosis Diffuse idiopathic skeletal hyperostosis. (DISH, Forestier's disease). Florid new bone formation at entheses results in spinal stiffness. May be confused with ankylosing spondylitis. Aneurysmal bone cyst A rare bone tumour which usually occurs in the teens and often in the spine. Locally destructive. Ankylosis Fusion - may be bony as in Ankylosing spondylitis.
